Our Product development process is not linear. On their journey towards our end users, features jump back and forth between phases, and even live in multiple at once. There is no definitive beginning or end, and at any point, the foundation for new features and improvements can be born. However, to make somewhat sense of it all on paper, we allow ourselves to simplify and present the phases in a chronological order.
Product development at Orbit is fueled by continuous exploration in multiple formats:
Contributors: Everyone
DRI: Product lead
Artefacts: Decks, reports, tickets
The output of continuous exploration is synthesized into high-level feature or improvement descriptions. Depending on size and alignment with core functionality, the feature or improvement is either submitted directly to our development backlog for further refinement and prioritization, or to our ICE committee, which serves as our highest strategic prioritization organ.
